Pleased To Meet You.....

For our first post, (is anyone reading this?) we thought we'd introduce ourselves.  We are Art Lyfe San Francisco, a new brand of extra-curricular art education for kids and young adults.  Our priority is to foster a love of art in Bay Area youths while providing them with the knowledge and techniques to express their creativity with freedom!  We have opened up registrations for classes to begin in January 2014 at SOMArts Cultural Center on Brannan Street in SOMA, San Francisco.  Check it out.

Art Lyfe is founded by visual artist, Meryl Pataky and photographer, Brock Brake.  Combined, we have a plethora of knowledge and resources in the art community from artists and gallerists to businesses and community centers.  With these resources, we hope to show young creatives that life in the arts is fun, engaging and doable!  Art Lyfe and our community of artists are surviving (so far so good) in a city that is becoming increasingly difficult for visual artists to do so.  With rent prices sky-rocketing and well paying jobs for visual artists reduced to the service industry, we stick together to help each other out and, in the process, learn more and more everyday about the power of community.

On this blog, we will feature interviews with Bay Area visual artists.  We will also feature video instructionals in different art mediums for you to do at home!  These DIY's will include things like papermaking, jewelry making, terrarium and plant art, wheat-pasting, stencil making, oil painting and drawing (just to name very few).  We hope to inspire the next generation of artists in our community!

Brock Brake is a photographer hailing from Chicago having worked for The Chicago Tribune, MOCA Chicago and various publications and brands. The photog is an experienced art handler currently working at the 10 year old White Walls Gallery, San Francisco. He frequently visits the studios of world famous artists documenting their process and work.

Meryl Pataky is a mixed media sculptor living and working in San Francisco for the past 10 years.  The artist received her Bachelors in Fine Art from the Academy of Art University. Since her graduation she has shown extensively in San Francisco and Los Angeles galleries.  Her work is a mixture of neon, metal and organics.  When not in her studio creating artwork, Meryl is providing childcare and mentoring to youngsters through substitute teaching, tutoring and even teaching kids how to ride bikes!
